Spring Break Sayulita One Tourist Perspective
Every year Canadians flock to Mexico by the thousands.
Cheap and accessible, it seems to be our perfect holiday destination.
Charter packages take us to Mazatlan, Cabo and Cancun, but some of the best spots to relax are just a stone's throw away from the big tourist towns, like Sayulita, a surfer's paradise just north of Puerto Vallarta. read more »
A Short History About San Pancho
San Pancho —as known by locals— located on the slopes of the exuberant Sierra de Vallejo, bathed by its river, decorated by its lagoon and estuary, and caressed daily by its majestic sea, is presently what we can call an authentic and picturesque Mexican town; while working to preserve its rural environment as one of its main attractions, you can also perceive the influence of other cultures, which among other things, are generating equilibrium in its constant growth as well as benefits to all sectors of its population. read more »
How To Sound Smart About Tequila
Spirits drinkers like a little mystery with their drinks, so myths about distilled beverages die hard. No spirit has had more mystery attached to it than tequila.
You can sound smart either way, by dishing out the myths or by debunking them. The choice is yours.
Tequila became popular in the United States during the psychedelic 60s. To many of us back then it seemed like another drug, more akin to acid than to familiar drinks such as bourbon or gin. Many swore that tequila produces a different kind of high.
It doesn’t. read more »

Calle Constitución Block Party
On February 5, 1917, the Mexican Constitution was approved by the Mexican Constitutional Congress, with Venustiano Carranza serving as the first president under its terms. Since then, Día de la Constitución, or Mexican Constitution Day, has been a national holiday that is commemorated on February 5th.
Every year, this historic occasion is recognized throughout the Republic of Mexico with traditional festivals and celebrations, but here in Puerto Vallarta, several local businesses are "taking it to the street."
Several Calle Constitución merchants, including Banderas Bay Trading Company, Martha's Boutique, Puerco Azul Art Gallery, Colleción La Bohemia, Ambiance by Marcia, Jades Maya and Sun Silver, have decided to make the most of the holiday by hosting a collective block party on February 5th from 6 to 10 pm. read more »
Sayulita Animals
Sayulita has an overpopulation of cats and dogs leading to needless animal suffering, damage to eco-systems and unhealthy conditions causing pollution and disease. For this reason, ten years ago a small group of animal lovers who called themselves "Patas" was formed in Sayulita by Upi Viteri. By going door-to-door they would pay people to have their pets spayed/neutered.
Unfortunately, the sterilization of around 110 animals per year is not nearly enough. With the animals' reproductive rates, the local breeding for fights and profits, as well as an increase in abandoned pets in Sayulita, the clinics are barely scratching the surface of the problem. Not to mention that many of the street animals cannot undergo surgery due to their horrible health conditions. read more »

Buster A True Story
Buster’s Story
My name is Buster, but sometimes it is Buddy and sometimes it is Max. People commonly call me a Mutt or a Mexican dog, but I think I am quite handsome. I am tall, short haired, and have really quite good teeth.
I was born on the beach in the small village of Sayulita, on the Pacific coast of Mexico, but I barely remember my mother. When I was only 6 weeks old, I found myself alone on the beach and very, very frightened. I searched and searched, but I couldn’t find her anywhere. Some of the other dogs who lived on the beach, and didn’t have homes, taught me how to beg for food, and how to dig through garbage for tasty tidbits. read more »
Open Letter to Sarah Palin
Dear Mrs. Palin:
I woke up this morning thinking about your decision to run for Vice President of the United States. Now, I know I am only one person, but I once heard that for every thought we have, there are hundreds of people before us who have thought the very same thing. Maybe that’s why I write you today. Maybe, just maybe, the thoughts I had this morning represent some of the things other people have also been feeling the past few weeks.
It is sad to see that a nation comprised of millions of people has such a small number of choices when it comes to electing someone to represent the majority of the population. When I see someone like you expressing your thoughts and feelings, someone like you attempting to represent the majority of the population, read more »
Sayulita Is A Great Place to Raise Your Kids
Sayulita is such a great place to raise a kid, let alone one who lives to surf. The main beach surf break is a year round kid playground. Consistently pumping out perfect kid sized sets (somedays bigger then others), the local youth get lots of thrills without losing their confidence. Of course they've all been stung by jellyfish, but who can beat surfing alongside sea turtles and manta rays when your six? When I asked around town why Sayulita's surf is so kid friendly everyone had similar things to say. Sayulita's right break is safe. There are mellow, easy waves almost all year round, breaking on all tides. The waves are not aggressive. read more »

SHARE LITIBU THE BEACH
Please participate in the conservation and protection of endangered marine sea turtles found in all oceans and beaches of Mexico. In Nayarit State, sea turtle nesting season is underway June through December. Females come ashore, primarily at night to excavate a nest, lay their eggs and bury them before returning to sea. Male turtles remain at sea. All six species of sea turtles, which nest in Mexico, are endangered worldwide. The reproduction of baby sea turtles is critical to their survival. Your support during the turtle reproductive season is very important.

Recycling in Sayulita and Beyond
There was a time when Sayulita was a secret that a fortunate group of tourists, transplants and locals guarded but also shared. Others shared with those they loved and so forth to create our current day Sayulita. Our Little Gem, remains such even through all of the growing pains that we have inflicted upon this once sleepy little fishing village.
Today, the environmental problems facing Sayulita and the world are enormous. Earth’s resources are being stretched to the limit by rapid population growth, air, water and soil pollution. Global warming threatens to push our planet beyond its ability to sustain human life unless we can meet the growing need for food, energy and economic opportunity within a sustainable approach to economy and environment. read more »
