Sayulita is home to one of the world's great creatures - the humpback whale. From Mid-December through early April, these waters are filled with magic, as the humpbacks come here to calve. You may see baby humpbacks. You almost can't go on a boat ride during these months without seeing the whales breaching (jumping) near your boat. While you don't always need to look for them, these tours specialize in finding and getting close to the whales.

Snorkeling Trip to the Marieta Islands – $350
Located at the northwest end of Banderas Bay, Las Marietas are a group of 3 islands that offer fantastic snorkeling! The Marietas Islands have recently been named a protected Marine Reserve, and as a result, many different species of fish enjoy the safety of the surrounding waters. It is a 35 minute boat ride from Sayulita or La Cruz.

The Marietas Islands provide sanctuary to dolphins, sea turtles and friendly giant manta rays, masses of tropical fish and coral reefs. King Angelfish, Panamic Sergeant Majors and Cortez Chubs frequently approach snorkelers at Las Marietas. You'll also see damselfish with their dark purple-blue body and bright neon blue spots, and if you’re lucky, you might spot a beautiful white and yellow fish with vertical black stripes - the elusive Moorish Idol.
