SAYULITA DAYS…..February 16th To The 24th
Sayulita Days began more than 50 years ago, it was created by the commissioner of the village and the Ejido to celebrate the birth of Sayulita. In the beginning it was known at the Feast of the Ejido and offering of food for all it’s people. This began on the 16th of February and turned into a 8 day event that last being Flag Day.
In the beginning the feast was held on the beach where people camped and played for the entire time. Bands played traditional songs of the region all day and all night.Time has changed the location of the celebration which is now held in the plaza and the circus comes to the village and sets up at the baseball field.
The most important days of the fiesta is the 22nd , 23rd and the 24th because this is the time for honoring the village, it’s elders and of course the children of Sayulita. The last day the 24th which is also Flag Day in Mexico, the day begins at 6:00 with a band of drums honoring the flag, at the plaza, this will last until 9:00 when the parade begins. Each school is represented, the elderly, local sports teams, charros and of course the Queen of the people. The parade ends at the plaza with a gathering around the flag to sing the national anthem afterwards the food is abundant and drink flows life water as families dance to the bands while watching the traditional charros dancing with there horses to the rhythm Banda.
Late afternoon comes and everyone leaves the plaza and heads to the bull rink to watch the brave men playing with there fate while riding the bull which is the most feared in the ring.
