Opening Doors To Future Generations
On August 18, 2008, Costa Verde International School opened the doors of its temporary school site in Sayulita.
Costa Verde is a Mexican non-profit organization of families, ecologists, educational professionals, and philanthropists dedicated to the growth of Sayulita and passionate about creating an inspirational model for progressive environmental education and to advance ecological responsibility in Mexico.
Like many other communities around the world, Sayulita is facing pressing environmental and educational challenges. The objective of Costa Verde International School is to confront these challenges by supporting the local community and by protecting the environment through teaching and awareness.
By an enhanced nationally mandated curriculum, children benefit from an advanced education in nature studies, creative arts, second language acquisition, multiculturalism, technology, and "green" ecology.
In addition, adults can take English, French, and Spanish courses at the Costa Verde Language School at a very competitive price. The Costa Verde Organization also started a Sustainable Resource Center as well as a Cultural Center where the community can participate in arts, dancing, karate, and cooking. The social connection to our diverse community is an important part of the Cultural Center.
A permanent school site will be built near the Punta Mita Highway, during the next 2 years pending funding. The new school buildings will be designed with an environmentally sustainable construction goal. In the meantime, only two months after opening, enrollment increased from 40 to over 60 children.
Children are our future. And like Ghandi once said: "If we are to achieve real peace in the world, we shall have to begin with children".
