After the Storm

After the Storm:

Now that November is here and the weather has shifted to beautiful sunny days and cool nights. I wanted to thank everyone who helped clean up Sayulita after the flood in September. I walked around the village and there are few signs that the flood even occurred. The signs I do see are mostly around the river, it’s wider which means the bridge will be wider, so if by chance we have heavy rains next summer things will be fine.  read more »

Two Sayulitans Win Honors In The World Of Tequila

When I first came to Sayulita, the first person I met was the property manager of a condo in Villa Amor, Gabbi Villarrubia.

The fourth person I met was Mark Alberto Holt, who had recently opened a tequila bar named the SFT Tequila bar, right on the square.

As fate would have it, we would all become friends, supporters and, in the case of Gabbi and Mark, celebrities in the world of tequila, flourishing like a blue agave plant under the hot sun in Jalisco.  read more »

SurvivingThe Nightmare

latitude/Richardlatitude/RichardAll through the night of October 27 the J/120 J World had been making swift southward progress, broad reaching under a single-reefed main and a 90% jib. With winds of 15 to 25 knots, the sleek hull tore down the long, 15-foot swells at speeds up to 11 knots. The ride was a bit bouncy, but the crew was loving it, especially since they'd been playing catch-up to the rest of the Baja Ha-Ha fl eet after making an unplanned 4-hour pit stop at Ensenada to repair a minor engine issue.

This was offshore sailing at its best. A few minutes before 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 28, Captain Eugenie Russell swung out of her berth, rubbed the sleep out of her eyes and headed for the companionway.  read more »
